FA suspends Dennis Wise. Again. But also nominates him for Manager of the Month. Again.

By: Matthew | Comments No Comments

Dennis Wise: a man of contradictions. On the one hand, charged by the FA (again) for abusive language towards a referee. On the other hand, nominated for League One Manager of the Month, an award he’s already won twice (as in, every one this season). He’s doing a damn good job, you have to give [...]

League One? You’re on Notice: Leeds 4 - 2 Milwall

By: Matthew | Comments 6 Comments

Playoffs … playoffs …
Leeds stretched their unbeaten run to a staggering 13 games (11 wins, two draws) with a spectacular 4-2 win over Milwall. United dominated from the first minute of the game, and Milwall’s two consolation goals only came while Leeds were four goals ahead and got lazy. I’ll have a full match report when [...]

Gus? To Tottenham? Please say it ain’t true

By: Matthew | Comments 2 Comments

The BBC - and pretty much everyone else, for that matter - is reporting that Juande Ramos, Tottenham’s replacement for Martin Jol, want Leeds’s assistant manager Gus Poyet to take on the same role at Tottenham. Leeds fans the world over are praying tonight that it ain’t true. Leeds’s manager, Dennis Wise, has asked Poyet to sit [...]

Thanks, Ref: Leeds United 1 - 1 Leyton Orient (Saturday October 13th)

By: Matthew | Comments No Comments

Late, but as promised - as I’m in Peru, this is a largely YouTube-fueled analysis, but hey, if it’s good enough for Sven, it’s good enough for me. Leeds came into this game unbeaten at home, while Leyton Orient were enjoying an excellent season. Cue a huge crowd at Elland Road, two goals from dodgy refereeing, [...]

Match Report: Brighton 0 - 1 Leeds

By: Matthew | Comments No Comments

Before we start, let’s all pre-emptively welcome Bolton Wanderers to the Championship - with a manager like Gary Megson, they’ll be lucky to avoid League One.
Anyway - onto the match. Apologies for posting so late in the week, but I only just got access to video. Unfortunately, I can’t post any highlights, because it’s only available through [...]

Another Saturday, another 1-0 for Leeds

By: Matthew | Comments No Comments

Grinding out 1-0 victories is becoming a habit for Leeds: Tresor Kandol hit home in the 78th minute of play to net Leeds’s twelfth consecutive game without a defeat, and the tenth win of the season. Championship football, here we come. I’ll post a full match report as soon as video of the game is online.

Screw Brighton, here’s Yeboah

By: Matthew | Comments No Comments

I’m not letting on quite how upset I am to be eagerly awaiting a match in bloody League One against bloody Brighton in a stadium that can hold fewer people than my bleeding high school football pitch, so here’s video of Tony Yeboah’s incredible goals against Liverpool and Wimbledon. Go back to the glory days [...]

Saturday Preview: Brighton v Leeds

By: Matthew | Comments No Comments

It’s Friday, which means only one thing: League One football tomorrow! Actually, it probably means the Rugby World Cup Final, the Premier League, and about seventy other things before you think of League One, but still, for those of us who care, Leeds have a chance to extend their unbeaten run to a staggering twelve [...]

Hooliganism, Sheepshanks, and Shaun Derry

By: Matthew | Comments No Comments

First off, a bit of light relief: the Home Office has released its statistics on football-related crime, and Leeds, once again, have come out on top. 118 Leeds fans are currently banned from all domestic and foreign football matches, four more than our nearest rivals, Cardiff. It’s nice to know we can succeed at something, [...]

Still in League One, but at least we have a blog

By: Matthew | Comments 5 Comments

Welcome to the new Leeds United blog!
I’m a soon-to-be postgraduate student at the University of Sheffield in England, and am currently working in deepest, darkest Peru (for all the Paddington Bear fans out there). Hopefully we’ll have some fun as I grapple with a Spanish keyboard (no apostrophes, but I’ve gained an ñ, a ¿, [...]
