Leeds Offside’s Lunchtime Links: January 30th

By: Matthew | Comments No Comments

Gary McAllister is the new manager of Leeds United! Fans the world over rejoice. I sit back with an apprehensive expression on my face and think, “but he’s never actually accomplished anything as a manager, has he?” Regardless, he’s contracted until the end of this season, with a remit to win promotion to the Championship. [...]

Luton Town 1 - 1 Leeds United

By: Matthew | Comments 2 Comments

Frustration? You bet. Leeds led 1-0 (courtesy of a Paul Huntington header from a Peter Sweeney free-kick) until the dying seconds of the match, when Luton Town’s Sam Parkin tapped in a cross from Dean Morgan. This came after both Jermaine Beckford and Tresor Kandol couldn’t get a pair of easy shots on target.
It’s frustrating, [...]

Leeds win again. Thank God. (Plus: I’m back!)

By: Matthew | Comments No Comments

I’m back! After a fairly long time away from a computer while moving back to Europe, I’m now back and posts should resume as of today. So to start, a quick round-up of all the Leeds news we’ve missed in the last few days.
November 25th: Leeds played a regular league match against Cheltenham, losing 1-0. [...]

Leeds crash and burn. Again. Leeds 0 - 1 Hereford

By: Matthew | Comments 2 Comments

Being a muppet, I just spent an hour and half writing an in-depth preview of tonight’s England - Croatia match, including assessments of all Croatia’s players, over on http://england.worldcupblog.org/, so if you want to know just who is Shakhtar Donetsk’s best Croatian player, go check it out. It’s certainly more fun than reading a match [...]

Johnstone’s Paint Trophy: Leeds 1 - 2 Bury

By: Matthew | Comments No Comments

God knows why Leeds can’t seem to win cup matches, but they really can’t. Bury, currently residing a league below Leeds, held on for a dramatic victory last night that knocked Leeds out of the running for the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy and dashed Dennis Wise’s hopes of a return to Wembley this season.
Leeds fielded a [...]

Match-Report Monday: Hereford United 0 - 0 Leeds United

By: Matthew | Comments No Comments

It turned out not to be such a great game after all. Leeds spent most of the game as the inferior side, looking tired and out of ideas. Considering they were playing against a League Two side, that’s really not acceptable. Leeds, who have a good claim to being the best team in League One [...]

It’s not that bad, honest: Carlisle 3 - 1 Leeds

By: Matthew | Comments 3 Comments

It had to end at some point. A 13-game unbeaten run at the start of the season is pretty much unheard of, and the current Leeds squad isn’t so much better than the rest of League One that it was guaranteed to maintain an unbeaten record. Still, Leeds deserve some credit: they were by far [...]

League One? You’re on Notice: Leeds 4 - 2 Milwall

By: Matthew | Comments 6 Comments

Playoffs … playoffs …
Leeds stretched their unbeaten run to a staggering 13 games (11 wins, two draws) with a spectacular 4-2 win over Milwall. United dominated from the first minute of the game, and Milwall’s two consolation goals only came while Leeds were four goals ahead and got lazy. I’ll have a full match report when [...]

Thanks, Ref: Leeds United 1 - 1 Leyton Orient (Saturday October 13th)

By: Matthew | Comments No Comments

Late, but as promised - as I’m in Peru, this is a largely YouTube-fueled analysis, but hey, if it’s good enough for Sven, it’s good enough for me. Leeds came into this game unbeaten at home, while Leyton Orient were enjoying an excellent season. Cue a huge crowd at Elland Road, two goals from dodgy refereeing, [...]

Match Report: Brighton 0 - 1 Leeds

By: Matthew | Comments No Comments

Before we start, let’s all pre-emptively welcome Bolton Wanderers to the Championship - with a manager like Gary Megson, they’ll be lucky to avoid League One.
Anyway - onto the match. Apologies for posting so late in the week, but I only just got access to video. Unfortunately, I can’t post any highlights, because it’s only available through [...]
