Adam Smith joins on loan from Spurs

Leeds United have completed the signing of Tottenham right-back Adam Smith on loan until the end of the season.

The loan deal was rumoured around Twitter last night, after Spurs recalled the player from his loan spell at MK Dons. Smith has yet to feature for Tottenham but has appeared on loan at Wycombe, Torquay and Bournemouth where he played a key part of their promotion push to League One.

At MK Dons Smith has made 22 appearance this season but will now make the step up in class to the Championship and Elland Road. Smith has also won four England Under-21’s and also represented his country at every level since under-16.

Speaking on the Official site Grayson said:

“Adam is a player we’ve been monitoring for a few months now at MK Dons. He has done very, very well and we’re delighted we could get his services. We know how highly thought of he was at MK and on top of reports we’ve had, he’s had some great recommendations from Stuart Pearce and Harry Redknapp. Adam is an England under-21 international with a bright future and he is a great addition to us.”

At the moment there is some confusion as to whether Leeds have a to-buy clause with the deal. It seems unlikely but Sunday Times reporter Duncan Castles tweeted:

“England U21 right back Adam Smith has joined Leeds United on a half-season loan from Tottenham. #Lufc have option to buy. #THFC

Smith has huge potential and is better than any of the defenders we have at present. Paul Connolly has taken some flak for the recent team performances, which for me is unfair as he has been pretty solid during his time with us. Not brilliant but not the catalyst to our problems for sure. Having watched Smith’s performance for MK Dons against QPR earlier this month I was very impressed, he got forward and caused some problems down the right, and could also defend against a Premier League outfit. Some will complain that it is yet another loan signing but for me it’s an improvement on our current ranks and a positive move for all. It would be an outstanding deal if it was with a possible permanent move, but that is probably asking too much.

So what do you think of the sacking?

Who do you figure Leeds is going to take a look at? Neil Warnock?
