Leeds downs Hartlepool 4-1

By: j | November 22nd, 2008

Leeds defeated Hartlepool United 4-1 in front of 20,000+ at Elland Road today. The home side took the lead fifteen minutes after the start when Andrew Hughes perfectly placed cross was re-directed into the back of the net by Jermaine Beckford. However the supporters cheers were dimmed only ten minutes later as a completely unmarked Joel Porter headed-in Michael Nelson’s cross. With the match now level, Leeds was searching for the go-ahead it and got it five minutes after break when player-of-destiny Fabian Delph scored from ten meters with Luciano Becchio the provider. The remarkable Argentine put his own name on the scorers list four minutes after the hour after a long pass was flicked on by Jermaine Beckford to him and he didn’t hesitate in sending the ball to the back of the net and making it 3-1 Leeds. As regulation time drifted away Jermaine Beckford added his second of the night to bring the match to a 4-1 conclusion.

The victory maintains Leeds sixth place position in the League One table. They return to action in a short week at Northampton on Tuesday.
