Leeds v Peterborough United match preview

While still only January, Peterborough United’s visit to Elland Road is critical for Leeds promotion bid. Languishing in ninth place, five points behind Scunthorpe United who occupy the final playoff berth, Simon Grayson’s side cannot afford to drop more points.

Peterborough manager Darren Ferguson has his club at third in the table and pressuring the MK Dons for the all important automatic promotion spot. While some think the odds are still in Leeds favour, the visitors know a victory at Elland Road would be crushing to their advances. Peterborough man George Boyd summarized this perfectly:

“We’re still treating Leeds as one of our main rivals, but if we beat them tomorrow they will find it very hard to catch us.

“Eleven points is a lot to make up so our main aim tomorrow is to get another three points and finish them off.

For Leeds, the additions of Richard Naylor and Carl Dickinson have made a major impact upon Simon Grayson tactical lineup. While the club needs to address long term solutions once their loans expire, defending improved significantly last week and shored up the flaws that plagued the first half of the campaign.

On the injury front Leeds has Jermaine Beckford and Robert Snodgrass available with Peterborough bolstered with the return of Chris Whelpdale and left-back Charlie Lee. Leeds potential lineup is as Simon Grayson’s stated position, treated like a national security issue, so we’ll have to wait and see.
