Marching on Together: Stockport match preview

By: j | December 27th, 2008

Following Leeds Boxing Day draw with Leicester City at Elland Road, new manager Simon Grayson bited he “was pleased with the result” and that the match was a “new start.” And while ending the miserable five match losing side was of-course a step in the right direction, there is no time for a “honeymoon” and Leeds needs to go on a sustained winning streak or League One is a lock for next season.

In today’s match against Stockport County, Leeds must dispense with the slow methodical approach that plagued the attack against Leicester City, just as it has throughout the campaign and cost Gary McAllister his job. In contrast to the notion that the draw against the Foxes was a “success”, a last minute draw is far from work of a club headed towards promotion. Immediately, Leeds must show confidence in the attack, starting with tactics employed, pacing and using a formation representative of their strengths. Primarily, Leeds needs to utilize a 4-3-3 formation with Robert Snodgrass, Jermaine Beckford and Luciano Becchio forming an attacking trident up top. A midfield that contains local boy Jonny Howson and Fabian Delph needs to given the green-light to push the attack with pace and damn those who cannot keep up. Leeds needs to play like champions and focus upon “winning” and not losing or better said attack, attack, attack.

I will report on the match as it concludes but until then we’re Marching on Together.
